Father, Uphold This Nation

The sorrow and pain of the present day have led many people to ask if God still exists. The world has gotten to a place where we are in desperate need for God to move over his people. But how can a global revival happen when nearly every nation has turned their back on God? Even if you as an individual are rooted in Christ, we cannot deny that our countries are not.

As for me, I’m from Nigeria, but I was born and raised in the UK, and despite both countries being labelled a Christian country, I cannot boast of the righteousness of either country. Nations who were once standing strong on the principles of God have gone astray and modernised the Word of God for it to suit their needs.  As children of God, it is our place to stand in the gap for our nations and intercede for them. With our prayers, we can pull down the hand of God to move nations back to Him. But how many of us are praying that prayer?

Being a child of God is not just about obtaining salvation. Once we have salvation it becomes our duty to intercede for others so that they will know Christ as you and I have known Him. God’s love is everlasting and it will never fail us, but so many people have never felt His love the way they should. We have to be available for God’s use because just like we have needs, so does Heaven, but we must choose to be used.

In the days of the Apostle after the day of Pentecost, the disciples were in church every day doing the will of God. They brought all their stuff together and sold it to help their community. They made such an impact in people’s lives that people were beginning to feel the love of God through His children, which encouraged them to accept Christ and become saved.  (Acts 2:42-47)

“And each day the Lord added to their fellowship who were being saved” ~ Acts 2: 47 (NLT)

God is the same yesterday, today and forever more. In the same way, God moved in the days of the Apostles, He can move now. It depends on whether we are going to be devoted to the things of God and make His burden our burden. It depends on whether we are going to take up the responsibility and speak to God on behalf of our nations and ask God to move. It depends on us. We must move closer to God if we are to feel His hand upon our lives and upon our nations in a new way.

8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” – James 4: 8 (NLT)

If you feel as though you have never felt the presence of the Lord, call upon His name. Everyone who calls upon His name shall be saved; it is a promise from God (Romans 10:13). Jesus is so in love with us that He willingly gave up everything. He humbled himself to live like you and me on earth and go through day to day struggles just to prove His love for us. For us to be used by God, we must be saved from our sin and stay away from sin. Once we see and experience the beauty of God, sin is no longer hard to run away from.

7 Resist the devil and he will flee from you” – James 4:7 (NLT)

The restoration of nations starts with you. We need to come closer to God as individuals and come closer together as a body of Christ if we are to make a life-changing impact. When we stand united in Christ, there is nothing that they cannot do.

5 But the LORD came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building. 6 Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!” ~ Genesis 11: 5-6 (NLT)

If the church is failing its duties, it means that we are falling our duties. When we stand before God and He asks us to give an account of what we have spent our time doing, what will we be saying? Will you be asking for forgiveness? Or will you stand before Him boldly and say that you did all He asked of you, caring for His people and sharing His love?

40 And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” ~ Matthew 25:40 (NLT)

You cannot be comfortable with how the world is because God sent you here to change it. There is a purpose for you to fulfil; you just have to be willing. Even if you just start with a simple prayer in your church or with friends saying “Father, uphold this nation,” the Lord will hear your prayer. And remember that there is power in numbers, which is why we must be united as a body.

Stay Blessed x
