Hard Work

Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich.

Proverbs 10:4

The Bible is very clear when it instructs us not to be lazy. Despite the mercies and grace of God, the truth is if you do not put effort into your work you will not get much out of it. As Christians, sometimes we take God’s grace for granted, we ask God for A*’s and a 1st class, when really we should be asking for a 1st class work ethic. That first class will not come without you doing what you need to do, that is just how it is. There have been so many times I have prayed for God to give me academic success, but my actions did not reflect what I have asked God for. You cannot allow the presence of grace in your life to make you lazy, because trust me God will discipline you and make sure you fix up!

Faith without works is dead. Yes, there are some things out of your control but what we can do physically to obtain that answered prayer we must do. God is not lazy and as His children, we too need to work hard too. The beautiful thing about working hard with God on your side is that he will instruct you on how to work so that your efforts will not be in vain.

Set yourself SMART goals, because sometimes we do work but not effectively. When you are working or revising make sure you are Specific with what you are doing. Organise and plan your day accordingly. Measure what you have achieved, can you remember and even teach what you spent the day revising or based on your specific goals you know you have completed what you set out to do that day. Attainable, don’t be too enthusiastic with your setting out plans for the day. Be honest yourself and set yourself goals that you know is within your ability, the same goes for Realistic. Lastly, Time your work. Set out what you want to achieve, and when you want it to be done by. If it is a long-term goal then a time limit might be to complete this project in 3 months, then within the 3 months you set weekly, or even daily goals to reach it. And above all stick to it, be determined within your spirit to do what you have dedicated yourself to do. As good as it is to be spiritual you must also take dominion in your personal life, whether that be education or your work. Either way, all wisdom comes from God and so it is accessible to you!
