Intimacy With God
“These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
Matthew 15:8
It is so easy to play the part as a believer than to actually be it, in fact, it’s a lot easier. Sometimes we just get so caught up in corporate worship and the hype of it that we do not realise that our hearts are far from Him. Your status as a child of God is not dependant on how loud your Amens are, or how high you lift your hands, it’s dependent on how much personal time you spend with God. Real growth does not take place in the eyes of men, but in the eyes of God in your bedroom where no one can see you.
We can so easily surrender and give to God the parts of us that we love, but what about the rest? God doesn’t just want your good days, He wants the good, the bad and the ugly. To be honest there isn’t a part of you that He doesn’t know but He wants you to trust Him enough to still love you when you give those parts to Him. If you break the word intimacy down you will get the words ‘In To Me See’ God wants to see all of you. When you have an intimate relationship with God you invite Him in, to you to see everything and to transform you, but you have to let Him in. You have to build up that intimate relationship.
You can build up this relationship by being honest with God, be free in your time with Him. Open your heart to Him about everything even though He is always with you. He still wants to hear about your day. Maybe journal or write to Him daily. You can also buy a prayer journal and write down your prayer which you feel led by the Spirit to pray, so you won’t forget. As you study the bible which is key, Write about it, don;t just read it. Highlight scriptures which speak to you, and write why they touch you so much and your understanding of them. And above all be free with God, set out a time a day which is convenient for you and dedicate that time in His presence daily.
