The Simple Gospel
“At that moment the curtain on the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart…”
Matthew 27:51
Through the death of Jesus we have gained free access to God. That is what the bible means when it says the curtains split in two, it signifies that Jesus died to give us direct access to God. Priests were the only ones who has access to God, in the Old Testament. They would go in once a year to bring a sacrifice for the sins of people. However, since the ultimate sacrifice, Jesus, we do not have to sacrifice, nor communicate with God through someone else.
Jesus came to do that we could have a relationship, and not to continue ‘religion.’ Christians often get the two mixed up and it is so easy to slip into religion and forget about our relationship with God. Religion is when you’re just doing the physical stuff, going to all your church services, Monday to Friday. Seeing God as this powerful being ready to smite/ judge you when you do something wrong. However, God is more interested in your Spirit and in your heart. For example going to church out of love for God instead of obligation. Coming back to your Father in repentance each time you sin. When we have a relationship, Christ becomes the centre of your life and we begin to understand and treat God as our Father.
You have free access to your father so don’t waste it by trying to be a “Good Christian.” There is no such thing, focus on God’s love instead. God’s love for you and your love for others. It is God’s love that will transform you into who you are supposed to be. It is not by our power that we are righteous.
We need to get back to the simple gospel of love. It is how we all came into Christ, His love brought us here. So, leave religion for the self righteous and start building a relationship with your Heavenly Father!
